Alumnus Presents Prize To Student

LJMU Alumnus, Captain Ian Mathison returned to the Byrom Street campus he attended as a student, to present a Prize on behalf of Bibby Line Shipping.  The Bibby Line Prize is awarded to an outstanding Level 2 student in Maritime Studies. The recipient this year was Richard Warburton, a very worthy candidate who has managed to continue his full time career with Merseyside Fire & Rescue whilst also achieving such a high standard in his studies.

This was the third year that we have been able to recognise and reward students for their academic achievements thanks to Bibby Line and during his visit, Captain Mathison, Director of Marine and Safety at Bibby, also announced that Bibby Line would be generously supporting students for a further three years. This is fantastic news for which LJMU would like to thank them for their committed support.

Captain Mathison said “it was great and quite nostalgic to be back in the building where I myself studied and a real privilege to be in a position to recognise the achievements of Richard. Bibby Line are thrilled to work in partnership with LJMU and wish all the recipients of the Bibby Line Prize well with their future careers.”

Richard follows in the footsteps of Joanna Letcheva and Ioannis Psarompas (joint winners) and Dean Forrest who have all gone on to successfully work in the shipping industry.
