Info for PhD students
There are a number of support mechanisms organised by the university for all PhD students, including mandatory University-level induction and research methods training, an additional one-week residential ‘advanced research methodologies’ workshop, generic skills as well as enhanced career training for all PhD students.
In addition, BEST launched a new Built Environment postgraduate research training programme in 2005, focusing on key research methods in Built Environment. To further enhance the postgraduate research student experience, BEST introduced Learning Agreements in 2007, and also organises an annual internal postgraduate research conference (BEAN) to monitor student progression.
Each PhD student must present a paper documenting their annual progress. Students are funded for presenting papers at national and international conferences.
All PhD students are based in the research hub, which has computing and printing facilities and have access to laboratory space if needed. If needed, students can have access to laptop computers for remote working.
There are three fee bursaries for full-time PhD students annually, plus additional bursaries for part time professionals working in the UK construction industry.
