Construction Management & Economics (CME)

This grouping within BEST comprises of a cluster of people who are engaged in research across a range of Construction Management & Economics (CM&E) related topics.  The CM&E cluster is highly engaged with industry in respect of its research activities, currently working in partnership with organisations such as Alder Hey Hospital, Horizon, Dress & Sommer, Fusion 21 and Shepherd Construction Ltd on a variety of projects.
There are a number of strands to the research being undertaken, namely: modern management methods; education and learning; culture; and financial aspects.  The academic members of staff within the CM& E group are as follows:
  • Dr David Bryde
    David is researching aspects of sustainable project management, including modern management methods, such as Lean, Agile, Uncertainty Management, Earned Value Analysis (EVA) and Stakeholder Engagement Methods.
  • Dr Alison Cotgrave
    Alison’s research areas of interest are embedding sustainability in the curriculum and developing curriculum models to enhance the employability of graduates from collaborative programmes.
  • Dr. Edward Ochieng
    Edward is undertaking research related to Multicultural project teams; with the unifying theme being people experiences and organisational challenges of managing and delivering sustainable projects in developing and developed nations.
  • Dr Andy Ross
    Andy is specifically interested in the economic dimension of sustainability, researching aspects of construction cost and financial control and financial project management.
