Procedural Information for Development Events

Development Events

Staff Development delivers Core, Open and Bespoke learning and development events to all University staff including postgraduate researchers and sessional lecturers.  Events range from two hours duration to nine days, on various days of the week throughout the year.

To apply for a place on a Development Event

Please seek confirmation from your line Manager/Supervisor that you can attend the event prior to booking your place:

Please contact us if you need specific information to meet your development needs.  To assist with your enquiry please state the course title in any communication as this enables us to deliver a more efficient service.

Confirmation of your booking

A booking confirmation email and notification will be sent when your booking is completed via the Staff Infobase.  When an event is oversubscribed, your name will be placed on a waiting list and you will be notified of the next opportunity to attend.  Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Attendance at events

Once your place is confirmed, you are expected to attend the event for its entire duration. Some events are also open to external participants and may include staff from LIPA, UoL and Hope University.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel your place you need to give 7 working days' notice, otherwise an administration charge of £70 per day, or pro rata will be recharged to your department for authorisation by the local budget holder. Substitutions may be accepted in the following circumstances:
a) Where the need has been identified for the person substituting to attend the development event.
b) Where cancellation of the place could jeopardise the event.
Substitutions may not be accepted when the event has been oversubscribed and there are already applicants available to fill the places.

Accommodation

Development events arranged by Staff Development are held at 5th Floor, Kingsway House and other venues across the University. Certain venues may be subject to change at short notice. Please note that this is usually due to a change in circumstances beyond our control.

Catering Arrangements

Drink refreshments such as tea, coffee, herbal tea and spring water are provided at all events.

Equal Opportunities

If you have requirements relating to the care of dependants and/or any disability that may affect their mobility or communication, please contact Staff Development in advance of an event so that we can more effectively support your requirements.

Resources

The Centre holds various development materials e.g. books, DVDs, which are available to staff to borrow for further study.

Monitoring and Evaluation
We seek to continuously improve the quality of our service. Evaluation forms are completed at the close of each event by participants, verbal feedback to facilitators and administration staff is also encouraged. Feedback is important and actions are taken to improve the quality of the provision of staff development activity. Numerical data is analysed for trends to inform the Staff Development policy of continuous improvement.
