Teacher Education & Professional Learning
Welcome to the School of Teacher Education and Professional Learning.
We are committed to providing high quality teacher education across Merseyside, working in collaborative partnerships with schools and other education settings to prepare an education workforce best equipped to benefit learners in the region’s schools.
Partnership with LJMU enables schools in addressing their own priroites for improvement by providing the opportunity to engage with a range of services which we offer in staff development that impacts on learning and leadership.
Initial Teacher Education
We have a track record for the provision high quality ITT programmes at postgraduate and undergraduate level through our ITT Partnership. Our enthusiastic engagement with the School Direct initiative has enabled us to expand this work into the full range of secondary subjects, primary specialisms and the School Direct salaried route.
Professional Development for teachers
We offer a range of Professional Development programmes for teachers many at Masters level. Increasingly we are able to design and deliver bespoke programmes on school premises. Such programmes provide schools with the opportunity to influence content and outcomes according to their needs.
Developing the Education Workforce
A number of our programmes provide a route into teaching for those working in support roles in schools. We are currently developing new approaches in this area to be announced during the year.
We will work with partners with commitment to:
- providing high quality support tailored to the needs of partners that impacts on pupil achievement,
- a fully collaborative ITT partnership with an clear role for schools in recruitment, curriculum design, delivery, management and assessment,
- developing the role of LJMU to support school improvement through professional development of teachers and leaders,
- using the expertise of LJMU to support action research as a vehicle for improving impact on learning.
Our approach to partnership is characterised by flexibility, collaboration, and inclusivity. We want partners to have a real impact in shaping the development of initial teacher training and professional learning in their schools to ensure that the outcomes are tailored to meet their needs as well as those of future entrants to the profession.
