The School of Engineering, Technology and Maritime Operations
Liverpool John Moores University was founded in 1825 in one of the UK’s most significant commercial port cities. The University is one of the largest in the UK with more than 24,000 graduates based in six faculties. Liverpool John Moores University has successfully developed its portfolio of academic programmes to include professional training, business support, consultancy and economic leadership, without compromising the integrity of its research and teaching.
The School of Engineering, Technology an Maritime Operations provides modern undergraduate, part time and post-graduate degree programmes covering engineering and technology and technical and operations management in the maritime, industrial and commercial sectors. The majority of courses are accredited by the primary professional institutions: the IET, the IMechE, the IMarEST and the CILT. The School of Engineering, Technology and Maritime Operations is ranked 24th for Mechanical Engineering and 17th for General Engineering in the Times Good University Guide. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise 90% of the research was rated 2-4* in General Engineering, and Electrical Electronic Engineering.
In 2008 the University launched the Liverpool Maritime Academy. The Academy brings together the School’s internationally recognised research in marine and offshore engineering, its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and the professional maritime training and advanced marine simulation facilities offered by the Faculty’s Lairdside Maritime Centre.
