General Engineering Research Institute (GERI)

Formed in 2002 as an amalgamation of three research groups from the School of Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University, GERI now comprises four major groups, with 40-50 full and part time collaborative researchers active in fields from optical metrology to mechanical engineering.

With £1.6m of recent investment, GERI owns a number of major and in some cases unique items of research equipment. In the†RAE 2008 20% of GERIís research was rated as being world-leading and 40% as internationally excellent, with a further 30% ranked as being of international standard and the remaining 10% of a national standard. Hence 60% of all GERIís research is deemed to be of internationally excellent, or higher, quality.

The ERDF-funded GERI Outreach Project†aims to support northwest SMEs by giving them access to GERI's scientific and technological expertise, as well as introducing them into international and national consortia of collaborative research projects.
