GERI Annual Research Symposium (GARS)

GERI runs its own annual research symposium at Liverpoool John Moores University called GARS.

GARS is organised entirely by the post-doctoral researchers within the Institute, rather than by the senior Professors/Directorate. This gives more senior members from amongst the younger tier of researchers in the Institute the experience of organising a medium-sized conference, thereby forming part of their CPD.

The inaugural GERI One-Day Research Symposium was held on Wednesday 22nd June 2005 in the Peter Jost Enterprise Centre (Lower Lecture Theatre), at Liverpool John Moores University. The day was a great success with a total of 27 research papers presented in a variety of subjects (19 orally and 8 as posters) and book-tokens were awarded as prizes for best paper, best delivered paper and best poster.

The success of GARS 2005 led to the adoption of the research symposium as an annual event. Each year has seen the symposium expand further,gaining industrial sponsorship and attracting some distinguished keynote presenters.
