Biography:

An international reputation in the field of health promotion and participatory evaluation with a specific interest in community based participatory research. I undertake research and consultancy in these areas. I also lead the Liverpool Longitudinal Smoking Study which has been funded by the Roy Castle Foundation for over 13 years. It focuses on children and young people's attitudes beliefs and behaviour in relation to smoking. In addition I lead a major research initiative in Sweden funded by the Regional Government which uses action research approaches to health and social care service development . I teach participatory action research, evaluation and community based health promotion. I am member of the UK Evaluation Society and the Collaborative Action Research Network. I have links with researchers in Canada, Mexico, Spain, Sweden and Denmark .
I have successfully supervised 12 PhDs.
