Biography:

Yvonne studied History with Politics and English at Lancaster University, and then worked as Youth Worker, Project Manager, Deputy and Principal Officer in Cheshire and West London. She obtained a Certificate in Counselling from Salford and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Manchester University.

Yvonne worked in Cheshire on a variety of youth and community work projects including an innovative detached work project in Macclesfield and a project for homeless, unemployed and truanting young people in Halton. Yvonne then moved to West London where she was deputy and principal youth officer. She was also involved in a variety of voluntary sector project, for example Lampton Lodge Trust (a residential centre in the New Forest) and Hounslow Action for Youth.

In 2000 Yvonne moved to Brunel University where she taught on a variety of youth and community work programmes including DipHE, BA, PGC and MA. At Brunel Yvonne completed her MPhil (The Discursive Construction of Young People in Debates Concerning their Political Participation).

In 2007 Yvonne relocated to LJMU to work on a new undergraduate degree 'Working with Children and Young People', and contribute to the DipHE in Youth and Community Work.

Yvonne currently lectures on the Working with Children and Young People and Social Work programmes.

Teaching Interests:

Yvonne's teaching interestes are wide-ranging having contributed to psychology, sociology, social policy and management modules. She has a particular interest in equalities and professional practice development.

Research Interests:

Yvonne’s research interests centre on young peoples political participation, concepts of citizenship, young people and youth culture, and shifting professional identities.
She is currently evaluating an arts based programme.

Publications:

(2007) a co-authored chapter with Dr Simon Bradford 'The Child in the Community: Leisure and Recreation' in De Bell (Ed) Public Health Practice and the School Aged Population.
(2008) co-authored article with Mike Lawley and Rev Dr John Towler 'Supervision in the context of youth and community work training', Youth and Policy, special edition.
Yvonne is co-authoring a book, to be published by Sage in 2011, on supervision of professional practitioners.
