Email & Mobile Devices
Every LJMU user automatically receives an email address, which can be used to send emails both internally, and to users outside of the university, subject to the Terms and Conditions of Use of the Computing Services and Facilities.
Unlike your personal file store (M Drive) - individual email accounts cannot be recovered by Planning and Information. Mail kept on the server is held safely by the LJMU Microsoft Exchange email system. If you do delete any item, individual messages and items are held in a special cached area for up to 30 days and can be recovered by Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Web App. For more answers, see Common Queries.
July 27th. Changes needed to remote Outlook users. More information here.

Accessing your EmailLJMU provide a number of ways to access your email either on or off campus, allowing you to stay in touch with the university no matter where you are in the world.
These are, in recommended order of preference:
Your email account is accessible from any LJMU networked PC, via the Microsoft Outlook icon on the Windows desktop. If this is not available, Outlook Web App (webmail) is available here for any computer or device with a web browser.
There are a number of ways available to access your email off campus. Listed in order of preference, these are:
Outlook Web App
Accessible through a web browser, it's the quickest and easiest way to access your email as it requires no configuration or set up, simply an active internet connection. PLN recommend Outlook Web App as the preferred way to access your email.
Off Campus Applications
If you have already configured your PC to use the Off Campus Applications service, this option lets you use Microsoft Outlook to access your email exactly as if you were on campus. Full details are available here.
Outlook can be configured to work fully outside the university. This is ideal for any laptop user travelling and those with specific requirements. Full details are available here.
Other protocols and devices
Email applications such as Outlook, Windows Mail, together with other devices such as Smartphones & Tablets can be configured to access your email from anywhere in the world. Instructions for setting these up are available on the left hand links.
Note we can only provide limited support for users configuring email. If you are unable to get a device working, we always recommend using Webmail as a default from outside the university, or Outlook via Off Campus.
