LJMU Criminal Justice Society

The LJMU Criminal Justice Society is an organisation run by staff from the Criminal Justice team at LJMU, which aims to provide both social and educational events for students within the School of Law.
Each year a 'criminal justice social' is held in the first week of the first semester whereby all new students are invited to attend a local establishment to have a few drinks and to socialise with both the academic staff and other students. Students from Levels 2 and 3 attend to pass on their knowledge and experience of studying at LJMU to the 'freshers'.
The Criminal Justice Society also organises a 'graduation party' each year for those Level 3 students who are becoming graduates. After their ceremony, students and their families and friends are invited to attend a social get-together with the academic staff to celebrate their achievements.
The Society also organises a number of educational events during the academic year. In previous years these have included trips to the Galleries of Justice in Nottingham to visit the HM Prison Service Collection and to enjoy the fantastic 'Crime and Punishment' tour which includes mock trials from the Victorian era and a step back in time to how prisons used to be run. We have also visited the impressively renovated Ruthin Gaol to experience the life and crimes of a former gaol!
The Society also actively engages on a vocational front with conferences and talks from practitioners who take the opportunity to pass on their knowledge and experience of the Criminal Justice system onto our students. A recent example of this was a visit from the Forensic Psychology unit from HMP Liverpool who spoke about career advice and the work they undertake to our Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice students.
The Criminal Justice Society is always looking out for fresh ideas of what to organise and the input of students into what they would like to do and see is always appreciated!
