Course Structure

You can study for your Law degree in one of two ways: either full-time or part-time. 

Below you will find an overview of the structure and routes available to you on each programme we offer.


Full Time

Your LLB degree consists of three years (or 'Levels') of 120 credits each (these Levels are 'Level 4', 'Level 5' and 'Level 6'. In other words, Year One is known as 'Level 4').

In order to progress from one level to the next, you must achieve 120 credits.

Level 4 is entirely made up of core modules ; Level 5 is a mixture of core and options ; and Level 6 consists mainly of optional modules with the exception of Equity & Trusts.

In order to obtain an honours degree, you must attain at least 120 credits at each level of study. 

1st Year

In your first year, there are no optional modules offered. You are required to study and pass all of the core modules.

All modules at every level are worth 24 credits. You therefore must study five per academic year of study.

The core modules at Level 4 are:

Obligations A (Contract/Tort)
Public Law
Criminal Law
Foundations
Legal Research & Independent Learning


2nd Year

In your second year, you will study a mixture of optional and core modules. The core modules at Level 5 are:

Obligations B (Contract/Tort)
Land Law
European Law

Plus 3 optional modules

You may take any three of the following optional modules:

Property Offences - Sports Law - Introduction to Employment Law - Crime & Security in the EU - Introduction to Business Law -Professional Development in Law -Torture, Bioethics and other 21st Century Rights - Social and Legal Studies - Comparative Law - Criminal Justice and Criminology: An Introduction


3rd Year

Your third year is entirely options-based with one exception; the core module at Level 6 is:

Equity & Trusts

The optional modules available at Level 3 are:

Part Time


Levels 4-6 are spread over a minimum of four years, but the system allows for extra time to complete (up to a maximum of seven years) where the need arises.

The course structure for part-time students is as follows:

Year One

Criminal Law
Foundations
Legal Research & Independent Learning


Year Two

96 Credits:

Public Law
Obligations A
Land Law
1 Optional Level 5 Module (see above)


Year Three

96 Credits:

Equity and Trusts
Obligations B
European Union Law
1 Level 5 Option

Year Four

96 Credits (All Level 6 - Options):

Four Level 6 Options (see above)
