LJMU Law Society
The Law Society is the largest society in the Liverpool Students Union (LSU). We aim to work for and with every student in Liverpool John Moores University in order to improve both your social and vocational standings with unforgettable law and non-law related events. This includes LLB full time and part time, Criminal justice and Law, and the LPC students alongside any other students wishing to peruse a career in law or convert their degree using the GDL.
We look to promote the University and Liverpool Students Union through our work, without discrimination or intolerance. We will work hard in order to create events which allow our members to progress through their chosen career paths or to allow them to make informed decisions regarding their careers.
During the next academic year (2010-2011) we intend to put on the following events:
Social:
Meet and Greets with lecturers
Social meet and greets
Trip abroad
Fortnightly socials
Halloween Ball
Xmas party (alongside the union)
Charity events
End of year Law Ball
Vocational:
Alternative careers fair
BPTC taster day in Manchester
LPC Taster day
Trip to London for the law fair
Networking event
Legal professional evening
Debating competition
Mooting day
From October onwards membership will cost £3, with a £5 federation fee payable to the union upon joining any society. You will not be able to add being a member to your CV without payment as we will have no record of you, and employers have been in contact with us to check (and you don’t want to be caught lying on your applications). For your money you will receive exclusive discounts throughout the year on our prestigious events, whilst gaining valuable work experience and contacts, and where demand for events is high, priority will be given to members. Not only does it look great on your CV, but you'll be part of a social network of law students open to all ages and levels, enabling you to mix with all the right people at this crucial time in your career.
[Events may change or be cancelled depending on demand, being a member does not guarantee that a ticket will be available for every event as we may have health and safety restrictions on numbers for specific events]
