Organisational Role and Responsibilities
Fiona is a Principal Lecturer, the Programme Manager for the Legal Practice Course, Admissions Tutor for the full-time LPC, and is Subject Leader for criminal litigation and family on the programme. She is part of the teaching team for advocacy, interviewing and practical legal research on the LPC course, and media and property offences on the LLB. She also teaches on foundations of English law, criminal law and media law on the GDL, and is module leader for media law. She is the disability officer for the GDL and LPC courses.
External Roles
Fiona is a member of Liverpool Law Society. She is a member of the assessment board for Datalaw and is responsible for creating and assessing work towards the accreditation of duty solicitors and police station advisers.
Biography
Fiona qualified as a solicitor in 1984. She worked in legal aid litigation, specialising in criminal and family work in Cheshire, Merseyside and the Thames Valley. Since moving into education she has continued to undertake advocacy in local courts on an ad hoc basis, and has helped to set up a successful law firm based in Manchester. She was a member of the Chester & North Wales and Merseyside Regional Legal Services Committee during the transition from Legal Aid to Legal Services, and worked on the creation and development of the 5 CLS partnerships in Merseyside. She has worked as a consultant to Merseyside Police Training and has devised and delivered training on courtroom skills and human rights. She has completed an MA in education.
