Teaching -

At undergraduate level John teaches the Law of Obligations A & B on the core LL.B. and options in Media Law and Medical Law I. At postgraduate level he teaches Commercial Contracting and the Law of International Trade.

Administrative - 

John Cooke is the Law School's representative for the Society of Legal Scholars (SLS). He also sits on the School’s Management Committee.

External Roles -

John is a media law consultant to a leading firm of solicitors and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Liverpool Law Review. He is an external examiner in law at the Universities of Bristol and Huudersfield.

Research Interests -

His research interests lie in the law of Obligations, especially the law of Tort and in Media Law, particularly defamation and contempt. His most recent paper is on the difficulties of reporting drug abuse in professional sport.

He has presented numerous academic and professional papers and published widely in these areas.

Books

He is the author (with Oughton) of The Common Law of Obligations (3rd edition, Butterworths, 2000) and The Law of Tort (10th edition, Pitman, 2011) which is the best selling Tort Law book in the United Kingdom.
