Peter is Professor of Law, whose specialist subjects are Medical/Healthcare Law, Family Law and Comparative Law. Peter has considerable teaching experience at several ‘old’ and new universities on a range of courses at LLB, LLM and postgraduate level, as well as teaching a diversity of students including social workers, nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals on professional courses. Peter teaches on the LLB option in Family Law and is Module Leader in Child Care and Child Protection and Medical Law and Ethics.
External Roles -
Peter has had considerable experience as an external examiner at several universities at undergraduate and postgraduate level and is currently an external examiner in undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Salford University and Sheffield University. He is also a guest editor on the Liverpool Law Review.
Research Interests -
His research interests lie in the law relating to Consent, adolescent children, euthanasia and severely disabled newborn babies, and child protection, areas in which he has published widely.
Peter has recently been appointed Chair of the Editorial Board of Family Law and Practice, a new online peer-reviewed journal.
He is the author of eight books, including 'Child Abuse' (with Christina Lyon) (Jordans) and 'Comparative Healthcare Law' (Cavendish). He has recently completed the following publications:
Family Law, Sex and Society (2010), Routledge, 412 pages (published February 2010)- a comparative study of Family Law developments in ten jurisdictions.
'Functions and Methods in Comparative Law' in Max Planck Encyclopedia of Public International Law: Oxford University Press, 2009.
