Teaching -

Ian is the module leader for Land Law (yr. 2), Succession (Yr. 3) and Appropriate Dispute Resolution (Yr. 3) on the LLB programme. He is also the module leader for Land Law on the GDL programme.
 

In addition, Ian is a dissertation supervisor and tutor on the Law School’s various LLM programmes.

Administrative -

Ian is a member of the Law School’s Teaching and Learning and Quality Committees.

In addition, Ian is the coach of the Law School’s teams for the National Negotiation and for the UK and International Mediation Competitions, and regularly judges these competitions.

External Roles -

Ian is a qualified barrister (Gray’s Inn and the Northern Circuit), having practised for over 20 years at the Chancery Bar out of Atlantic Chambers in Liverpool and 5 Stone Buildings in Lincoln’s Inn, London. He has also delivered continuing professional development courses on Contentious Probate and Inheritance (Family Provision) claims, - principally (although not exclusively) to solicitors - through organisations such as Central Law Training, BPP (Professional Education) and Advance CPD.

Ian is one of the Bar Standards Board’s external examiners for the Bar Professional Training Course run by BPP University College in London and Leeds and is, in addition, an external examiner for the LLM in Professional Legal Practice also run by BPP in London.

Ian is a JASB panel representative and has significant experience in the validation and revalidation of academic and professional programmes.

Ian is also a qualified Mediator. In this capacity, he is a member of the Board of the International Academy of Dispute Resolution, based in Chicago (USA), and the Acting Chair of the Committee which organises the UK Law School Mediation Competition.

Finally, on a professional level, Ian is a consultant (probate and commercial property) to Ettinger & Vickers, solicitors, of South Cheshire and Wirral.

Research Interests -

Ian’s research interests include: Succession (all aspects) and Commercial Leases.
