Research -

Gary is an expert on the role of the United Nations in the maintenance of international peace and security, and this forms the major part of his research and publication agenda. More generally his research interests include international law in general, in particular the use of force, international organisations, the relationship between international law and international relations, and human rights. He has also conducted research into legal education. Gary has published several well received articles in leading academic journals and has delivered a series of conference papers on various subjects.

Teaching -

Gary is module leader for Social and Legal Studies (level 2), Power and Government in the Modern State (level 2), The United Nations and International Security (level 3), and Education Law (level 3). On the LLB programme he is also involved in the teaching of Public International Law, Human Rights, Public Law, Foundations, Legal Research and Independent Learning in Law.

At postgraduate level he is module leader for The United Nations, International Security and Global Justice on the International Criminal Justice MA programme, as well as contributing a seminar to the Contemporary Issues in International Criminal Justice module on the same programme. He teaches on the LLM Legal Practice programme and contributes to teaching on the English Legal System and Public Law modules for the Graduate Diploma in Law.

Administrative –

Gary is cohort tutor for year 3,4 and 5 part-time LLB students. He is also qualified to sit on University validation panels and has been involved in the validation of a number of programmes.
