LPC Special Graduation Ceremony 2008

The LJMU Legal Practice Course (LPC) graduation took place on 16th October 2008 in order to celebrate the achievements of the students, and present them with their LPC certificates, in the splendour of the John Foster Moot Room.

This year the President of Liverpool Law Society, Anne Heseltine, presented the certificates, and gave each graduate a copy of a book produced by Liverpool Law Society. Other speakers included District Judge Ian Sanderson and Dr. Tony Harvey, Senior Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University and training partner at Brabner Chaffe Street.

We had outstanding results to celebrate: 15 students achieved a Distinction in their assessments, and 24 students obtained a Commendation.

Julia Hurlbut and Rachel Keegan were each awarded a prize for Academic Achievement and Excellence. Julia won the part-time prize, and Rachel the full-time prize.

Charlotte Cropper, who has now commenced her training contract with Berrymans Lace Mawer, was awarded the Liverpool Law Society Prize, presented at the Liverpool Law Society AGM on 25th November 2008.  Charlotte achieved the distinction of gaining the highest marks ever recorded on the LPC. This is a colossal achievement, made all the more impressive by the fact that Charlotte has managed this despite suffering from dyslexia and scotopic sensitivity syndrome.

We are enormously proud of her, and of all our other graduating students.

The LPC graduation is organised as a separate October event because the results are not out in time for the students to graduate with the rest of the LJMU students, and we believe it is important that they and their families have a memorable finale to their study at LJMU.

The letter below shows that our students agree:

“I just wanted to thank you for such a wonderful night at the graduation.  I don't know what I was expecting but I thought it was well organised and the venue was fantastic.  My family thought the night was brilliant too.

“I just wanted the chance to thank everyone who tutored me over the past two years and for all your support - as you know I wasn’t too well for some of the last year.

“I am being admitted as a solicitor on the 17th November and just can’t believe after all the years of study I am finally there.

“Again I could not have done it without your assistance.

Many thanks”
