Organisational role and responsibilities

Keith Trickey is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for MA / MSc Information and Library Management Programme at Liverpool Business School. He also teaches on the BA Business and Public Relations and BA Business Management and Information.

Biography

After ten years in a range of professional posts in academic libraries, Keith decided to spend a few years teaching and joined the then Liverpool Polytechnic and ended up staying.  Keith has twin interests in developing learning capability and information organisation. The former led him to study NLP in the 1990s - he is a Master Practitioner of NLP. This led on to his work with the charity Youth at Risk (YAR). The work with YAR produced novel physiological interventions for anger management and emotional effectiveness which were published by Anchor point : the practical journal of NLP. He also developed the very successful sequence of continuing professional development and information organisation training for CILIP and is now the lead national trainer in this field. Keith's work with CILIP has stimulated his research work. Keith now works part time for the University, which has enabled him to expand his training work, and his enhanced professional competence feeds into and enriches his teaching.

Membership of Professional Bodies

Keith is a Fellow of CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals), and a member of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and the American Library Association.

Research Interests

Having pursued applied research in emotional management for a number of years Keith eventually decided to take a more formal approach to research and registered as a research student. Keith is undertaking research on the early period (1897 to 1940) of the development of the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH). LCSH is the dominant language based subject access system used by libraries and information services world wide. The Library of Congress is supporting the research. The research will produce useful insights for current language based access system designers.
