Have you wanted to 'Be a Graphic Designer'? See what it's really like to work on creative projects within this exciting industry by signing up to our daily or weekly summer workshops with practising designers. You will have the chance to sample a range of different professions from photography to animation as well as learning a host of new skills and some top tips about the industry! Ever wondered about becoming a Graphic Designer? Then this is the workshop for you! Experienced contemporary Graphic Designers Marie Jones and design collective, Mercy will show you the different pathways within the profession and help you to create your very own brand. Marie Jones (31st May) is a freelance graphic artist, typographer and illustrator who has produced work for fashion and sports brands, design product companies and community arts projects. Marie also specializes in bespoke commissions for independent creative projects and events in addition to running her own design company 'Kochi Kochi'. Marie is also a co-founder of The Souvenir Collective with Nick Griffiths based in London and Jackie Dunning in New York City. Highly successful Liverpool Graphic Design and Illustration collective, Mercy (25th July, 8th August) have developed branding and marketing campaigns for local indie band, ‘The Wombats’ and clothing label, ‘Diesel’ as well as producing a range of cutting-edge arts and music spectacles. In addition to their creative roles, the group also act as an agency for some of the best emerging artists in Liverpool and London. Learn about the different routes within professional photography with professional photographer, Rhian Askins, creating your own mini portfolio of work in just one day! You will come away with a range of techniques, your own set of your own photographs and a whole new way of looking through the lens! No previous experience is necessary and you are free to bring your own camera/camera-phone on the day. (Cameras can also be provided on request) Rhian Askins is a Freelance Photographer & Graphic Designer who runs her own highly successful photography business and has a vast range of experience of event, occasional and portraiture photography. She has taken photographs for events such as Liverpool’s ‘Long Night’, ‘The Mersey Partnership’ and ‘Open Culture’. Do you spend all your time doodling in your notebook rather than listening to teachers? Take doodling to a whole new level in this exciting workshop with design group, Mercy, experimenting with styles and ideas and learning how to carve out a career as a successful illustrator. Highly successful Liverpool Graphic Design and Illustration collective, Mercy, produce cutting-edge illustration for a range of clients as Universal, Sony, Diesel, Virgin and the Young Vic and also act as an agency for some of the best emerging artists in Liverpool and London. Please bring any work you would like to put in your portfolio (must fit inside a 12cm x 12cm) and any comic books for inspiration. Lucy Wilson is an illustrator and maker whose work involves the revival of traditional crafts of image and bookmaking. She began her fascination for bookbinding at college & continued making her books as an art form following university. Lucy recently produced a wallpaper design for a permanent John Ruskin exhibition at the Sheffield Millennium Gallery. Learn the art of stop frame animation and character development with animator and illustrator, Andrew Hooper, making your own mini-animation showreel in just one day! Andrew Hooper is an illustrator and animator who has worked on a variety of diverse projects for clients such as 'Coca-Cola', ‘Sunny Delight' and the BBC. He a wide experience of running workshops for community groups as well as working within higher education. Some of his animation work can be viewed here

For anyone with a love of comics, illustration and layout, this workshop allows youto design and make your own unique 'Scrapbook Portolio' and ‘Comic book folio’ with illustrator and bookbinder Lucy Wilson. By using simple, traditional bookbinding techniques of stitching and binding, you will learn how to create a truly professional finish and come away with some rare professional skills.
