Patricia Mackinnon-Day is MA fine art programme leader and Reader in Environmental Art at Liverpool John Moores University. She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, London and has contributed to and installed permanent and temporary works for cites across the United Kingdom and Europe. Mackinnon-Day has a successful track record of searching out challenging contexts in which to develop unique installations that push the boundaries of visual arts practice. She has earned a strong national reputation for the research and investigative base of her practice which results in powerful work resonant of context, people and place. Her practice endeavours to give voice to the ordinary and to reveal hidden identities within the monumental but transient frame of the urban space and to bring a public voice to contemporary art practice. Mackinnon-Day’s work challenges the preconceptions of an artist as simply the producer of a product and seeks to look at the role of the artist in the whole process. All of this, combined with her track record of delivery has led to a growing demand from arts institutions, corporate bodies, design and development professionals for her services as a consultant, as an adviser, as a project manager and as an installation artist. She engages with developers, architects and planners in thinking creatively about the built environment in cities and towns of every scale. Mackinnon-Day is currently the lead artist for a major urban extension site in Cambridge and has just completed the art strategy document which gives advice to developers for the commissioning of public art.
