GMDSS - General Operators Certificate

Dates and Prices

This training course is intended for Seafarers who require a Global Maritime, Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) General Operators Certificate in accordance with Section A-IV2 of the STCW Code.  The course has both theoretical and practical examinable modules with the practical exercises forming a significant part of the course. 

Delegates will be able to take charge of communications with the relevant rescue authority in emergency situations and :-

  • Communicate using terrestrial systems operating in the MHF & VHF bands
  • Use Digital Selective Calling devices
  • Communicate using satellite systems – types B, C and Fleet 77
  • Operate and test location devices
  • Use appropriate documentation
  • Carry out basic test and maintenance procedures on the GMDSS station

Duration:  9 days

Standard:  STCW95 A-IV/2; IMO 1.25

Entry Requirements:  There are no entry requirements

Issue of certificate: 

  • Be not less than 18 years of age
  • Meet the standards of competency in Table A-1V/2 of the STCW Code
  • Pass the GOC practical & theoretical examination
