Research Interests:

    • Cave archaeology in northern England.
    • Description and palaeoecology of the Southern African fossil Carnivora.
    • Biogeography of Plio-Pleistocene large mammals, including hominins.
    • The effects of captivity on the morphology of mammals.  

Current research projects

  • PI on the AHRC funded Upland Caves Network. Further information on the network can be found here.
  • Description and palaeoecology of Plio-Pleistocene carnivores from seven sites in the Sterkfontein valley, South Africa.
  • Dietary variation in modern and fossil macaques using stable isotope analysis, in collaboration with Sarah Elton (Hull York Medical School), Carolyn Chenery and Angela Lamb (NERC Isotope Geosciences Laboratory) and Lorenzo Rook (University of Florence).
  • Analysis of human and other animal bones from Doghole Cave, Haverbrack, Cumbria. More information on this project can be found on the RCEAP website Cumbria research pages.
  • Radiographic analysis of wild and captive cheetah limb bones, in collaboration with Jim Ohman (LJMU) and Andrew Kitchener (National Museums of Scotland).
