Breadth and Integration – these are the two key words in the distinctive approach to the study of mind and human transformation being pursued at LJMU. Our work ranges over a broad range of challenges focusing on the nature of consciousness and the psychology of spiritual development. Our overarching interest is that of integrating the diverse approaches that we use to meet these challenges in the pursuit of an enriched vision of what it is to be human.

Examples of the range of challenges include:

  • the cognitive neuroscience of consciousness
  • comparative analysis of mystical texts
  • assessment of personality along Jungian lines
  • formulation of transpersonal psychological models
  • the adoption of transpersonal models in business contexts
  • phenomenological analysis of the effects of transformative practices, both in spiritual contexts and in relation to the performing arts
