LRCs update
07 October 2009
Work progressing well and Aldham Robarts re-opened on schedule
As previously announced a programme of extensive remodelling and reconstruction has been under way at two of the University’s LRCs over the summer in order to deliver the newly combined student facing service which has now been renamed Library and Student Support.
Critically, campus centres have ceased to exist and have been replaced with new Transaction desks which are based in the student support zones of the three LRCs, where all student administration services can now be found.
Aldham Robarts Centre
The LRC has undergone extensive building work and was successfully re-opened, on schedule on 5th October. Director of L&SS, Maxine Melling, and President of the LJMU Student Union, Eddy Symondsen formally re-opened the LRC. The new LRC includes the Student Support Zone on the ground floor and initial feedback suggests that this is being very well received.
Temporary arrangements for the beginning of semester activities for Faculty users of the Aldham Robarts have been put in place and are available to view on the website.

The campus centre has moved into the LRC and the new Hub/Transaction desk has been created as a focus for all Library and Student Support activities, and new study spaces and meeting rooms have been created.

Work has already started to transform the former Panini bar area into a new Transaction desk and Hub area. In the interim, these functions will operate from the old campus centre area, and the ground floor and first floor reception desks will become temporary Hub points.
New Digital Information Screensnow in all three LRCs will display up to date information for staff and students to ensure that all users are aware of the services available and to provide clear directions within the buildings.
In addition, a new system has been installed for booking meeting rooms and making student welfare and careers appointments. This activity now takes place at the Hub areas of the LRCs.
