TravelWise week
18 September 2009
TravelWise week begins on Monday 21 September and LJMU are involved in various activities.
Monday 21 September - Commuter Challenge Bike vs Train vs Car
Starting at Mossley Hill Station at 8am there will be a race to the Pier Head. Radio Merseyside's DJ Steve Kenyon will be the 'car' and Councillor Eddie Clein, Chair of the Liverpool City Council Cycle Forum, will be on the 'bike' with TravelWise staff on the 'train'.
Don Thompson, Technician in the Faculty of Science and Chair of Merseyside Cycling Campaign, will also be taking part and taking the bets. All cyclists are encouraged to come along and pit themselves against car/train to try to reach the Pier Head first!
Spectators are also welcome, for further information visit: http://www.letstravelwise.org/content156_TravelWise-Week-2009.html
Thursday 24 September - TravelWise LJMU Guided Cycle Ride
This ride from the IM Marsh Campus into the city centre commences at the Student Centre (IM Marsh) at 1pm. The ride will take about an hour, finishing at the Avril Robarts LRC - taking a leisurely route into the city away from busy main roads. The ride is open to both staff and students and incorporates all three campus areas.
We already have over 40 people signed up for the ride, with many students taking the opportunity to sign up at the Travel Plan stand during the LSU Welcome Fairs last week. Places are still available though. Please email: TravelPlan@ljmu.ac.uk to sign up. If you require a free hire bike please state this on the email as these are on a first come first served basis and are being taken up fast.
These events show of how LJMU is working alongside TravelWise to promote more sustainable 'greener' travel options for all our staff and students. We hope you can attend.
