Would you like to be a mentor?
12 November 2009
Thousands of young people on Merseyside have created a virtual Talent Brick over the past few months. These bricks create Talent Walls which are displayed in Liverpool ONE from 26 October and are kick starting a week of activities.
Young people are encouraged to come to Liverpool ONE during the week to find out how they can use their talents to open up their futures.
But it doesn’t stop there...
Many of these young people have dreams and impressive talents which would secure a positive future for them, however a lot of these young people don’t have the structure around them at school, with their peers or at home to ensure they can turn their dreams into a reality.
This is where you can help…
Big Brother Big Sister mentoring programme plays a key role in providing vital guidance and support to young people to act on their talents. This support can vary from practical advice on which course or training they should choose to overall encouragement and guidance when they need a friend.
What are the benefits of becoming a mentor?
- Develop effective communication, management and interpersonal skills which can be transferred into the workplace
- Develop confidence and motivation for you and your mentee
- Personal satisfaction: direct and positive contribution to the development of someone who is experiencing a lack of support in their life
Commitment
- One hour a week (flexible)
- Five months
Young people will be 14 -16 years old.
