Think before you think
13 November 2009
The first social event to be held in the newly-refurbished seminar rooms and Cybernetic café in the Aldham Robarts LRC was a book launch for an anthology of Stafford Beer’s writings, 'Think before you think' by David Whittaker.
The Stafford Beer collection is held in the LJMU Archives and has a very active research community associated with it.
Around 50 guests attended to hear David’s presentation about Stafford Beer’s life and the writing of the book, a fascinating process involving copyright battles, a 10-hour stint in the archives in the Aquinas basement and a week spent in Stafford Beer’s refurbished cottage in Wales.
Several members of the Beer family attended and were able to view the collection with archivist Emily Burningham. It was a very enjoyable informal evening with a buffet and wine, organised by Doug Haynes, former member of staff in the LJMU Business School.
If any member of LJMU staff would like to run a similar event to promote research-related work, please contact Valerie Stevenson in Library and Student Support, ext: 3178.
