Heard about audio feedback?

27 November 2009

LJMU is gaining recognition in the UK higher education sector for its leading edge developments in the use of audio technology to provide formative feedback on assessment to students.

Lecturers George Macgregor and Chris Taylor, in the Liverpool Business School, are pioneering the use of Wimba Voice Email for audio feedback, supported by Alex Spiers from the LJMU Learning Development Unit.

Voice Email is one of a suite of audio tools acquired by LJMU through the Technology Enhanced Learning project within the LJMU Development Programme.

Delivery of timely and relevant feedback is seen as a key priority for enriching student learning. Research being undertaken by George, Chris and Alex aims to explore the potential and pedagogical benefits of delivering formative feedback in the form of a 'voice' message from the lecturer.

The significance of this research has been recognised following a successful bid for project funding through the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Information & Computer Sciences and the allocation of £3494 to support the research. George and Alex are also presenting a paper at the A Word in Your Ear 2009 - Audio Feedback conference hosted by Sheffield Hallam University. Find out more at http://research.shu.ac.uk/lti/awordinyourear2009
