Year 11 Future Focus Day

10 December 2009

98 students from five Greater Merseyside schools visited LJMU Mount Pleasant campus for a day of workshops and taster sessions.

The students had selected in advance which sessions they would like to attend from a choice of Criminal Justice, Health, Psychology and Sport Development.

The sessions were run by academic members of staff from across the University and were supported by the newly recruited team of Student Recruitment & Widening Access undergraduate advocates.

After lunch in the Students’ Union, the second half of the day comprised of sessions on Student Life and Revision Techniques which were delivered by staff from the Student Recruitment & Widening Access Team.

Students all came away from the interactive sessions with a greater understanding of what it would be like to study at university level. One of the students who attended said: “Now I know more information about student life, loans, accommodation and the lessons at university. Thanks!”

Paul Ireland, one of the University’s Aimhigher Account Mangers within SR&WA, commented that: “The day had been a great opportunity for students to experience a first hand taster of university life and get to work with LJMU academics and current undergraduates. Thanks must go to all of the staff who were involved in the planning and successful delivery of the event.”
