LJMU chosen to host iSafely event
23 December 2009
LJMU hosted the North West launch of iSafely, a new programme which enables parents to help their children safely use the internet while also raising their awareness of the dangers of unsupervised internet use.
LJMU was chosen to host the event due to its reputation as one of the premier teaching universities in the UK, with staff who have a wealth of experience in dealing with the issues of child safety which are prevalent within the school environment. Over the past five years one of the most prominent issues is the safe use of the internet.
The iSAFELY internet training programme has been accredited by OCR (Oxford and Cambridge accreditation body) and is endorsed by Microsoft and CEOPS (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Agency). It was developed in response to the rise in cyber crimes such as cyber bullying, identity theft and online fraud.
The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Brown, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Community and Leisure, Kate Johnston, and representatives from iSafely and Teach First.
