LJMU helps graduate businesses

21 January 2010

New businesses set up by Merseyside graduates will receive a helping hand thanks to a free new scheme from LJMU.

The Graduate Accelerator Entrepreneurship Programme (GAEP) has been specially designed by LJMU to help young businesses started by graduates survive and prosper in today’s tough marketplace.

Open to all graduates from any Merseyside university with a business which has been trading less than three years, the programme provides a range of support.

Participants benefit from a one-day intensive training session focusing on personal and business development needs and get to choose a mentor from a pool of experienced business owners with expertise in a wide-range of industries. The mentors give ten hours advice and guidance over a 12-week period, helping participants to work towards achieving their business goals. Graduates who take part also have the opportunity to expand their business contacts and become part of the LJMU start-up network.

Sally Partington, GAEP Co-ordinator, said: “In this current economic climate, starting a new business is even more difficult than usual so this is a great opportunity for graduate entrepreneurs to learn from the experts. The programme not only gives graduates unrivalled access to business professionals from all sectors and industries with vast experience in establishing and maintaining successful companies but they will also gain invaluable contacts which will be essential for them as their business grows and develops.”

For further information on GAEP or to apply for a place on the programme, see www.ljmu.ac.uk/startup or call Sally Partington on 0151 231 8060. Alternatively email GAEP@ljmu.ac.uk

The closing date for applications is Thursday, 28 January, 2010.

GAEP is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England's Economic Challenge Investment Fund.
