e-Systems conference hosted in Abu Dhabi
26 February 2010
Under the patronage of HH Sheik Saeed Bin Mohamed AL-Nahyan, the 2nd international conference on the Developments of eSystems Engineering (DeSE'09) took place at the Millenium Hotel, Abu Dhabi recently.
The three-day conference, organised by the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at LJMU, was hosted locally by Al-Khawarizmi International College.
DeSE'09 captured e-Systems engineering research contributions from diverse areas such as e-health, e-government, e-learning, e-security, and e-science and technology - with over a hundred paper submissions from 12 countries. Over 100 participants attended, including senior officials in Abu Dhabi government, IT managers for oil companies, financial institutions and government departments. The conference proceedings were published by the IEEE Computer Society.
There were two prominent keynote speakers at the conference - the first was Professor Lotfi A Zadeh from the USA, commonly known as the 'father of Fuzzy Logic'. The second keynote speaker was LJMU's Professor Madjid Merabti, a specialist in Network Security.
His Highness Sheik Saeed Bin Mohamed Al Nahyan said that he was happy to see this international research conference being held in Abu Dhabi and he was delighted to see a large number of participants from the United Arab Emirates who have contributed research papers in collaboration with their colleagues from international universities. HH also added that the organization of such an international scientific research conference in Abu Dhabi is a good sign that the UAE has become a favourite choice as the venue of international research conferences.
DeSE'09 conference series has been established in response to the rapidly rising number of areas in which integrated e-Systems are encountered. These developments and innovations are becoming prevalent in many diverse domains including business, education, security and governance. This usually involves the use and implementations of Internet technology to reproduce inter- and intra-organisational procedures and frameworks which are conveniently available for the end-user, offering existing and newly engineered services, products and communication channels.
Little attention has been paid to the actual underlying science and engineering of e-Systems however. It is therefore the intention of the DeSE conference series to act as a platform and an increasingly essential forum that is dedicated to discussing and disseminating advancements in an emerging, more clearly defined and specific field of e-Systems engineering with its wide-ranging applications and implications across all subject areas.
It is envisaged that the DeSE conference series will continue to expand to include additional and relevant future research and development challenges in e-Systems engineering related to currently emerging topics of interest such as nanotechnology, e-crime, and green computing.
