Lecturer attends literature festival to promote book.

'On Roads' book coverDr Joe Moran, Reader in Cultural Historyat LJMU, appeared at the Bath Literature Festival, one of the country's major literary festivals, on Tuesday 2 March to talk about his popular book, On Roads: A Hidden History, in conversation with the novelist and broadcaster Jenni Mills.

On Roads, published in hardback in June 2009, combines historical research and anthropological observation to produce a cultural and imaginative history of roads in Britain since the beginning of the motorway era in the late 1950s. It comes out in a paperback version in May.

Other authors who appeared at this year's Bath festival included:  Jonathan Bate, Simon Armitage, Frank Cottrell Boyce, Carol Ann Duffy and Michael Frayn.

In recent years Joe has gained a national reputation as a contemporary historian of everyday life, particularly by reaching out to non-academic audiences. He is also a regular writer on the history and politics of everyday life for newspapers including the Guardian, the Times and the Financial Times.
