Sports Scholar nets superleague debut

From the start of the netball season Liverpool John Moores sports scholar Laura Malcolm has been an active member of Northern Thunder Netball Club.
Laura was awarded the captains badge at the beginning of the season for the junior side, and since has lead the team to the top of the table with big hopes of winning the league. Paul Harper (NTL head coach) commented that: “Laura Malcolm has developed into a great captain and is leading the team strongly on court” after a convincing win against Team Northumbria (65-33).
Alongside the sports scholars achievements in the NTL team Laura has been selected as a member of the Netball Superleague squad (senior competition). Laura trains with the NSL squad and is constantly pushing for a place in the team. Finally after hard work both on and off the court Laura was selected for the final 12 to play against Glasgow Wildcats on the 27 of Feb 2010.
Although Laura wasn't in the starting 7 she had her Superleague debut within the second half of the game playing two quarters at WD. Laura coped well with the level of play and made successful turnovers which were converted to goal. Laura commented on the game saying: “I enjoyed the game and I hope to get another chance to step into the netball Superleague, there's still plenty of room for improvement but I'm willing to put in the work until I earn a regular place in the team, however long it takes!”
Laura has also been selected for the England U19 side, and will be playing in Loughborough from the 12 -14 March. The team will be competing against four countries: Malta, Ireland, Scotland and Wales hoping to win the gold once again.
