BEST kicks off €1.1m EU funded project

The Built Environment and Sustainable Technology Research Centre (BEST) in the School of Built Environment has kicked off the EU-FP7 funded project, 'Micrograss'.
The Micrograss project is about converting various types of grass into bioethanol using advanced microwave technologies.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Diana Burton and Mike Riley, the Director of Built Environment, welcomed the project partners from Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology (Germany), Health and Environment Institute (UK), Dara Sistemas Electronicos (Spain), Uvox Microwaves (Sweden), Biofuels Wales Ltd (UK) and Dipolar AB (Sweden), and gave their full support for this project.
Professor Burton emphasised that both research and development and enterprise are fundamental to LJMU's future development, and part of the University strategic mission.
Professor Ahmed Al-Shamma'a, Director of BEST and the project Technical Manager, indicated that this project is very prestige and can only demonstrate the uniqueness of our international reseach and devleopment, commenting that "the success of this project will have a tremendous impact into the Biofuel renewable energies worldwide"
