‘Liver and Mash’ sold out

07 May 2010

A two-day unconference held in Liverpool this week will cater for over 100 delegates from the USA, Europe and the UK.

Termed a ‘mashup’, the event brings together people from different sectors who are interested in using technology and data and mashing them together to give visual, interesting results. Speakers at the event represent journalism, libraries, web services, local entrepreneurs and technology.

Mandy Phillips, organiser and Head of Business and Information Systems in Library and Student Support,  commented: “Liverpool has such a rich technology community and this event brings together local businesses who are world class, with librarians and developers from across the globe. Liver and Mash will give delegates new ideas to think about, as well as time to network and work on existing problems, and deliver practical solutions.”

Liver and Mash is the fourth Mashed Libraries event in the UK. Previously it has taken place at Birkbeck, Huddersfield and Birmingham City.

Often mash ups use maps as a platform to display results, this example showing aircraft flight paths on a map.

This joint event has been made possible following collaborative working from LJMU Library and Student Support and Open Labs, and has attracted sponsorship from Ex Libris, 3M, Coutts Information Services, UKOLN and the OCLC Developer Network.

Thursday 13 May – WorldCat Mashathon

Even though tickets have sold out for 'Liver and Mash', places are still available for the UK’s first OCLC WorldCat Mashathon. This will be taking place as part of the unconference, giving participants the opportunity to get involved in coding mash-ups with local systems and other web services to take advantage of all that the world’s largest bibliographic database has to offer.
