5th annual BEAN conference
23 June 2010
May 18 and 19 saw the continued success and growth of the annual Built Environment and Natural Environment (BEAN) Conference held by the School of the Built Environment for the dissemination of current research. The 5th annual conference was expanded to include other northwest universities.
The aim of the annual BEAN conference is to provide a mechanism to explore new research directions. The conference provides a sound platform for PhD students to present their annual progress and receive valuable feedback. The conference also provides a forum for staff to publish early research results and explore new research ideas with colleagues. This year sponsorship from the research Councils UK, Hydro International and Rohde & Schwarz enabled a competitive edge to be added and a number of prizes were awarded to reflect student achievement.
The conference Chair, Dr. William Atherton highlighted the importance of the event and the fact that the conference involves research students at every level, including student members on the organising committee and editorial team. He also commented on the continued growth of research activity within the School and strength of the Research Centre for the Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies (BEST). The themes of the conference centred on Sustainable Technologies, Planning & Development, Construction & Facilities Management and Renewable Energies with a large number of high quality paper and poster submissions being presented over the two day event.
