Art history student journal success

Self portrait by Catherine Harrison. With thanks to the Grosvenor Museum, ChesterBA (Hons) History of Art & Museum Studies student, Juliet Carroll, has written an article that will be published in a prestigious journal.

Juliet, who is just about to graduate with first class honours from LJMU, wrote the researched article as part of her final assessed Major Project for her degree.  It is an article about the little-known Cheshire artist, Catherine Harrison, and it will be published soon with colour illustrations in 'Cheshire History' magazine.

In level two of her degree, Juliet completed an internship at Chester's Grosvenor Museum, and thereafter continued to volunteer and help the Keeper of Fine Art, Peter Boughton, with his research.  Having admired the portraits in the museum by Harrison, Juliet began to do archival research in the Cheshire Record Office, as well as in other archives.  She soon made exciting discoveries about the artist's life and works and it is this primary research that is the focus of the article.

The Editor of the journal, Tony Foster, wrote to congratulate Juliet on the article's acceptance, stating: "I thank you immensely for providing me with such a well-produced and straightforward script to handle - I only wish others would do the same."

Programme Leader, Dr Emma Roberts, comments: "I am extremely proud of Juliet's amazing achievement.  To attain publication whilst being an undergraduate is extremely rare and just shows the depth of Juliet's research along with her high quality writing skills.  The HAMS programme team is delighted that our training in Art History, research skills and writing has served Juliet well and enabled her career to progress so swiftly."
