Clarence Street building open day

07 July 2010

Investing in a high quality student experience is fundamental to the Campus Development Programme and staff are invited to come along and have a sneak preview – and comment on – how the new Clarence Street Building could be kitted out on Monday 12 July.

The Open Day in the John Foster Building will showcase the next generation of AV-IT equipment and learning technology which could be installed by the time the development opens in 2012.  Staff will also be able to see a range of furniture shortlisted for the building’s social learning areas, professional centre and teaching rooms. Office furniture will also be on display.

All LJMU staff, not just those moving into the new building, are welcome to attend.

A number of suppliers will be running demonstrations during the Open Day in the Upper Garden lecture theatre (UG 008) between 10am and 4pm, showcasing the latest learning and teaching technology, including:

  • AV touch screens and control systems
  • Smart boards
  • Video-conferencing
  • Data projectors and LCD screens
  • Digital visualisers
  • Lecture capture technology

"This is an opportunity for staff to see new generation learning technology in action," says Joe McGlynn, Technical Services Manager for the Faculty of Business and Law and a member of the University’s AV-IT group. "LJMU has got to be leading edge and by showcasing this emerging technology we can ensure that the new Clarence Street building really delivers a high quality learning experience for our students."

Furniture will be displayed in room G13, again between 10am and 4pm.

"Value for money, durability, good design, delivering an enhanced student experience; these are the criteria that we have used to draw up our shortlist of equipment and furniture," says Mark Nevitt, Resource Director for the Mount Pleasant Campus. "We have to ensure that this is a truly student-centred building and that is where we are planning to direct resources. We hope that this Open Day will demonstrate just how we hope to achieve this."
