Reunion event celebrates youth and community work
07 July 2010
The recent conference on ‘Stories from youth and community work in Merseyside’ offered former LJMU students and local colleagues the chance to share their experiences post qualification and develop their ongoing practice. Over 40 participants attended this alumni event on 18th June 2010
The guest speaker, Bernard Davies offered his perspective on "why we need youth work", which was followed by animated group discussion of the ‘real lasting impact’ that workers can make through their respect and belief in young people and practice that challenged and inspired others. Later, the afternoon workshops enabled participants to explore "creative learning", "equality and empowerment", "young people and money" and the initial findings from the research project into "youth workers' narratives of practice".
Those interested in further opportunities to meet up are invited to contact the alumni association and members of the youth and community staff team.
