Campus Solutions Developments
19 July 2010
In September 2010, as part of the Campus Solutions transition year, the new module catalogue will go live. The current OSS Modcat and Prodcat will be switched off on 27 August 2010. New Modcat will be switched on and Prodcat functionality will return on 27 September 2010. Therefore there will be no Modcat or Prodcat available in September 2010.
All activity in the existing Modcat must be signed off by 27 August 2010. No unapproved modules will be migrated into the Campus Solutions system. Therefore, modules for which approval has not been obtained prior to the switch off will have to be developed from scratch using the new Modcat system. Please note that the new Modcat system will not support in term development of new modules once a term has started. Further, in year changes to modules are only to be available for a limited number of fields – namely module team, indicative references and module notes.
All module and programme codes are changing. From 27 September Modcat and Prodcat will use the Campus Solutions codes. To assist staff during the transition year, translations between old OSS and new CS codes will be available via the WebHUB.
New Modcat has the advantage of an improved reporting system and a more accessible interface. Module information will be migrated into the new system and include the new requirements for assessment types. As an interim measure, Campus Solutions will include the assessment category ‘coursework’. These items must be manually changed in line with the new categories if the module is to be used from September 2011 onwards. There are no changes to the format of the programme specification. Prodcat will be essentially the same, apart from the inclusion of the Campus Solutions codes.
Given the extent of module and programme development planned before Christmas, training for the new module catalogue will be provided throughout October. The intention is to deliver flexible, targeted training at the point of use. Staff will be shown how to input their own module data and be supported in using the new system. Further details of training will follow. Any support required for the unchanged Prodcat system can be arranged through Planning and Information.
