LJMU lessening the landfill
20 July 2010
Working together, LJMU's Property Services and CIS teams have taken another step forward in diverting materials away from landfill sites.
Property Services has provided a number of buildings with special containers that will allow CIS technicians to place small unwanted pieces of IT equipment in the containers for recycling by our own WEEE (waste, electronic and electrical equipment) Contractor.
Previously, due to concerns about health and safety and transport, small pieces of equipment were placed in the general waste and sent to landfill.
Dave 0'Brien, Senior CIS Technician said "this enables the technicians to deposit small items of electrical equipment on-site for recycling, rather than having to transport them back to the LJMU Tower on Norton Street or to put them in the general waste and then on to landfill".
