Screen School students film Avatar producer in Cannes

Four lucky students from LJMU's Screen School have just spent an unforgettable week as part of the MOFILM team at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival.

MOFILM are worldwide distributors of creative content and work with numerous global brands including: Coca Cola, Lego, Samsung and Unilever brands, helping aspiring filmmakers create videos and short films for these and other organisations.

While at the festival in Cannes, the Media Professional Studies students, Laura Clark, Dominique Dickie, Mike Lunt and Will Walters, met a range of filmmakers, advertising creatives, CEOs of the world’s leading brands and Jon Landau, the Executive Producer of the films Avatar and Titanic.
One of their main roles was to conduct interviews and this enabled them to enhance their technical skills as well as giving them the chance to network and pick the brains of top creatives.

Although they were working in one of the world’s most glamorous cities, Laura admitted that: “The hours were long and the production schedule was constantly subject to change but I found this kept the adrenaline running and kept us on our toes.”

All the students found that the experience had far outweighed their expectations. Laura summed it up as “amazing, inspiring, motivational, intense and unexpected”, while Dominique described it as “a life changing week” and one which had made her reassess her whole career plan, commenting that: “Working with MOFILM has made the dream we all chase a little bit more tangible and makes you want it even more.”

The students are planning to work together in the future to enter the range of competitions run by MOFILM and have the chance of the experience from a winner’s perspective.
