GOALS Awards Party

The impressive North Liverpool Academy was the venue for this year’s GOALS awards Party. Managed by LJMU in partnership with Liverpool PCT, Liverpool City Council and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, GOALS is a healthy lifestyle programme for children who are obese and their families - supporting them to make small, sustainable changes to their eating and physical activity habits.

With 6 GOALS programmes from across the city this year there was a massive turnout of over 120 guests. The families were welcomed to the evening with a host of activities including: Guess the Grapes, Guess the Fruit, Graffiti Wall, GOALS Quiz and Barmy Bingo. The prizes were kindly donated from generous local businesses: Rampworx Indoor Skate Park, Yellow Sub Children’s Play Centre and Marriot City Centre Hotel Health Club. There were also freebies on offer from PCT, 5 a day and Year of Health and Wellbeing.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Paula Watson manager of the GOALS Project, with an opening address from Gideon Ben-Tovim, Chair of Liverpool PCT. Families were then entertained with dance routines from Urban Street Stars Dance Squad and a gymnastics display from HPL Gymnastics.

Presenting the certificates to the young people was Richard Braithwaite - regarded as one of the best football freestylers in the world - who put on an amazing show of tricks.

GOALS would like to thank Liz Lamb, who arranged for all families who completed the programme to receive a free Lifestyle three-month family membership. This gives the families full access to Lifestyles fitness suites, swimming pools, health suites, steam or sauna, squash, badminton courts, coached fitness classes and discounted tennis court bookings.

After the ceremony a deliciously, healthy buffet was provided by the catering staff at North Liverpool Academy. The evening ended with the Urban Dance Stars getting people up dancing and Richard teaching football freestyle tricks.
