Grad Bus comes to town
15 September 2010
LJMU students will have a chance to learn about how Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) can benefit their careers when the Grad Bus visits the University this month.
The double-decker bus, kitted out for workshops and one-to-one advice sessions, will be in Maryland Street, (which is between Aldham Robarts Learning Resource Centre and the Students’ Union Haigh Building) on Thursday 23 September 2010, between 10.00am and 3.00pm.
Throughout the day, there will be an opportunity to:
- listen to KTP Associates who have first-hand experience of KTPs
- find out more about the process and benefits of KTPs
- register your interest in becoming a KTP Associate
There will also be workshops about interview and CV writing skills and a chance for students to have a one-to-one session to review and improve their own CV.
The scheduled sessions for the day are:
10.00am - 10.30am and 12.30pm - 1.00pm: KTP overview
An introduction to KTPs, roles, responsibilities and benefits.
10.30am - 11.00am and 1.00pm - 1.30pm: Producing a winning CV
It's estimated that employers discard 3 out of 5 CVs within 2 minutes. You may have all the skills and experience but without a CV that conveys this to employers you won't reach interview stage. This workshop will equip you with 'top tips' on how to write a CV and covering letter with impact.
11.00am - 11.30am and 1.30pm - 2.00pm: KTP: An Associate’s perspective
A KTP Associate working on a current KTP gives their perspective on the KTP process and the opportunities it has afforded them.
11.30am - 12.00pm and 2.00pm - 2.30pm: Preparing for interviews
Discover how to market yourself effectively and what to expect from an interview by coming to our interactive session. We'll tell you everything you need to know about interview preparation, awkward questions and successful interview etiquette in this half hour session.
In addition, throughout the day there will be a CV Surgery, where a member of LJMU's Employability Team will review CVs and provide practical feedback to ensure it is effective in today's competitive job market.
The event is free and no pre-booking is required. Just turn up on the day and find out more about how KTPs can be a valuable experience that may kick-start your career.
