Beth bags another title
17 November 2006
The British world Champion on uneven bars, Beth Tweddle, won on her apparatus the World Cup final today, which was held in the Kelvin Hall of Glasgow
A superb line up of the world's greatest gymnasts descended on Glasgow's Kelvin Hall on 10/11 November for the 2006 Grand Prix, which marks the tenth anniversary of the internationally renowned gymnastic spectacle in a historic year for British gymnastics.
All eyes were on Britain's first ever Artistic World Champion on the back of her historical performance on the A Bars at the recent World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.
Beth has brought a new confidence to the sport of gymnastics in this country, something that organisers Glasgow City Council and British Gymnastics believe made the event all the more special.
Recently crowned World Uneven Bars Champion, Beth has not had much time to celebrate her achievements, "To be honest, life has been very hectic since returning from Denmark."
At the World Championships last month in Aarhus, Beth became the first British gymnast to win a world title when she topped defending champion Nastia Liukin (USA) on uneven bars.
Upon her return from the Grand Prix, the 21-year-old Sports Scholarship student has been busy with press requests and studies. "I have done so many interviews with television, radio and newspapers," she said. "I have also been trying to catch up with the university work that I missed, and get assignments in."
Beth said she enjoyed a private celebration of her world title, commenting, "To celebrate, I went out with friends from home and university, and had a meal with some family and friends. That was nice, as I don't get to catch up with them very often."
Beth is also expected to make the short list for the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Click here to make a nomination.
