LJMU launches 'Informing, Empowering and Enabling Women' training pack

The 'Informing, Empowering and Enabling Women' training pack, developed by LJMU's Gender Discrimination and Ageist Perceptions team was launched at the Equality North East's Network For Change conference on 1 March.

During the conference, entitled 'The Next Chapter', LJMU's Dr Diane Grant and Mike Hogan gave presentations alongside speakers such as Vera Baird MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Constitutional Affairs, former Minister Barbara Roche, and Kevin Rowan, Northern Regional Secretary of the TUC.

Elizabeth Reay, Chief Executive of Equality North East, commented: ''We are proud that this training pack was launched at our Network For Change conference. We hope that as many women as possible in the North East will be able to take advantage of the opportunity it offers to empower them to challenge assumptions and stereotypes, linked to age and gender, which may have prevented equal access of opportunity.''

The training, which is being delivered nationally by the LJMU team to groups of between 10 and 25 women, is free and all participants will recieve a free copy of the Training Pack and DVD. The training is targeted at women living outside the Merseyside Objective 1 area who have been out of the workforce for a while, are facing redundancy, or who carry out unpaid work, such as caring for relatives or within a voluntary agency.

The training is designed to be easy to use and to facilitate 'cascade' training. The pack contains nine workshop sessions, including 'Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination', 'Age and Gender Discrimination', 'The Road To Equality' and 'The Female Stereotype'.

The DVD contains an electronic copy of all printed materials, PowerPoint presentations, and a variety of full-length interviews and shorter clips for use within the workshops. These interviews are also available in 'audio only' versions or as transcripts. It also has full copies of relevant reports, internet links to related documents, other resources and useful websites.
